The halfway house serves as a temporary accommodation facility to ease the burden of B40 families seeking treatments at the hospital

Kuala Lumpur: CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad (“CIMB Islamic”) announces its RM520,000 contribution towards the establishment of a halfway house named Rumah Rakyat CIMB Islamic within the vicinity of Hospital Sultanah Maliha in Langkawi. The halfway house is aimed at aiding the B40 families who are seeking treatments at the hospital. Guided by the intrinsic values of strengthening family ties within the local communities, this strategic initiative is in partnership with Hospital Sultanah Maliha, Langkawi and the Kedah State Health Department under the Ministry of Health Malaysia.

A signing ceremony was held with signatories Ahmad Shahriman Mohd Shariff, Chief Executive Officer of CIMB Islamic and Dr. Othman Warijo, Director of Kedah State Health Department, marking the commencement of the community empowerment strategic initiative.

Aimed at providing residents with a sense of comfort and safety, the idea of Rumah Rakyat CIMB Islamic was sparked by the overwhelming need to provide assistance to the B40 communities within Langkawi and the surrounding islands. The affordable Rumah Rakyat CIMB Islamic serves as a temporary accommodation facility for relatives of patients receiving treatment at the hospital, especially those residing in Pulau Tuba and other neighbouring islands who need to travel long distances.

Commenting on this initiative, Ahmad Shahriman said, “We are pleased to have the opportunity to support the underserved communities and make a meaningful impact through a collaboration with our valued partners to see the fruition of the much-anticipated Rumah Rakyat CIMB Islamic. We sincerely hope our contribution is able to alleviate some of the burden faced by the communities in Langkawi and the surrounding islands. Looking ahead, we will continue to do our part by positively contributing towards the betterment of the environment, local communities, and the general economy at large, aligned with Bank Negara Malaysia’s value-based intermediation (“VBI”) – echoing CIMB Group’s new brand proposition, ‘MOVING FORWARD WITH YOU’.”

Dr. Othman said, “Hospital Sultanah Maliha is in fact the only hospital in Langkawi and is the main referral hospital for residents of Langkawi and the nearby islands, as well as tourists visiting Langkawi. And thus, the establishment of the Rumah Rakyat CIMB Islamic thanks to the generous contribution by CIMB Islamic is indeed timely and much needed to accommodate the local communities. This initiative is a strong testament of our on-going efforts to help alleviate the burden and uplift the lives of the targeted groups. On behalf of the Kedah State Health Department, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to CIMB Islamic for their contribution and support for the establishment of the Rumah Rakyat CIMB Islamic.
