RM700,000 contribution underlines CIMB’s commitment to education and inclusive opportunities aligned with GEAR-uP Programme

Kuala Lumpur: CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad (“CIMB Islamic” or “the Bank”), in collaboration with Yayasan Pendidikan Pelajar Melayu (“YPPM”), has empowered nearly 2,000 Form 5 students from asnaf and underprivileged communities across 50 schools in Peninsular Malaysia through Program Pusat Tuisyen MADANI (“the Programme”), helping strengthen their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (“SPM”) readiness, learning confidence and access to academic support.

Started in March and completed in October 2026, the Programme focused on three core subjects; Bahasa Melayu, Sejarah and Mathematics. With a total contribution of approximately RM700,000 from CIMB Islamic’s Zakat Wakalah and Islamic Corporate Responsibility Initiatives Fund, it provided tuition classes twice a month over eight months, supported by approximately 150 teachers, alongside learning materials, meals and enhanced learning facilities to help students better prepare for their SPM examinations.

The Programme forms part of CIMB Group's broader commitment towards educational development through GEAR-uP Programme under the GLC Demi Rakyat dan Negara (“GDRN”). To date, CIMB Group has contributed approximately RM2.16 million towards education-focused initiatives, benefiting over 4,000 students nationwide.

The Programme completion was graced by YB Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek, Minister of Education, accompanied by Ahmad Shahriman Mohd Shariff, Chief Executive Officer of CIMB Islamic and Dato’ Dr. Suhaimi Ibrahim, Chairman of YPPM and President of Persatuan Alumni Yayasan Anda Akademik Malaysia (“PAYAAM”) at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Jalil.

Ahmad Shahriman said, “We believe meaningful progress happens when people have the opportunity to realise their potential, regardless of their circumstances. In line with CIMB’s purpose of Advancing Customers and Society, we support the government-led GEAR-uP Programme by helping raise the floor for underserved communities through expanding access to quality education and creating pathways for long-term social mobility. Through our contribution to Program Pusat Tuisyen MADANI, we hope to help students from asnaf and underprivileged communities strengthen their academic foundations, approach their SPM examinations with greater confidence and pursue higher education. Ultimately, this is about creating more inclusive opportunities and enabling individuals and communities to progress and build a better future.”

Dato’ Dr. Suhaimi said, "Many students from B40 and asnaf families have the potential to succeed but lack access to adequate academic support. Through Program Pusat Tuisyen MADANI, YPPM, PAYAAM and CIMB Islamic came together to bridge this gap through targeted intervention and structured learning support. This collaboration demonstrates how the government, NGOs and the corporate sector can create more equitable educational opportunities, empowering students to build confidence, improve performance and realise their potential. The encouraging results achieved through this Programme reaffirm our belief that timely and targeted support, can build students’ confidence to pursue higher education."

The Programme has delivered encouraging improvements in the 2,000 students’ SPM trial results, with overall pass rates increased and the number of students achieving Grade A in Bahasa Melayu, Sejarah and Mathematics also doubled, with statistics indicated fewer students received lower performing grades, showcasing positive progress in their academic performance. These improvements demonstrate the essence of CIMB’s brand promise, Moving You Forward, and reinforce the Bank’s commitment to helping individuals and communities realise their potential and work towards a brighter future.
